The Opflanell was an event on Canvas 65 and considered one of the later Opcellogs. It was an attack by the Chromatic Empire against "Red Cells" that had been built by Flandre.

Background

Both Flandre and the Chromatic Empire had launched attacks against Cell Lattice remnants since Canvas 59. However, when a patch of rogue Cells was built on Canvas 65, rather than destroy it, Flandre opted to recolor it and turn it red. The continued existence of the lattice, in any coloration, was a breach of the Chromatic Empire's espoused anti-Cell policy that had been adopted after the Second Opcellog.

The battle

The Empire attacked the Red Cells with the intention of fully erasing them from the canvas; they were resisted by Flandre. Ultimately, the Opflanell was a decisive victory for the Chromatic Empire. It proved the continuing widespread opposition to Cell Lattice. During and after the fighting, the participants on both sides came to consider it a "friendly battle," and a better version of the Crucible War in which no feelings were hurt. The conflict came to an end when the Red Cells were destroyed.

Aftermath

It is estimated that 40-50 people were involved in the Opflanell, with the vast majority being on the Chromatic Imperial side.
