The Corner War was a war that lasted approximately 43 hours at the beginning of Canvas 47. At the height of the war, there were about 230 users online, far more than a normal reset and hiking up cooldowns to above 40 seconds long. The war involved approximately 276 users.

Background

Prior to the reset that would open Canvas 47, 2ch had preclaimed the top center area of the canvas. Corner Gang claimed the bottom left. However, around 40 minutes before the reset actually happened, 2ch made a surprise announcement claiming the bottom left, which eliminated Corner Gang's chances of making art on the canvas. This, in conjunction with other previous behavior by 2ch, led Legion to intervene[1] in an effort to restore the Corner Gang template that most prominently featured a ghost holding an asexual flag. The League of Factions, which had been fighting 2ch since the previous canvas, joined in shortly after.

Timeline

Conflict begins

The initial push was highly effective, able to build Corner Gang's ghost in about two hours despite heavy resistance from 2ch. However, when the the intervening side began to work on the flag the ghost was holding, they get bogged down by intense 2ch griefing at both the center of the ghost and its black outlines, slowing their progress significantly. The ghost and flag were completed about four hours after the intervention started. At this point, Legion began working on the smaller ghost nearby as well as focusing on grief defense. The LOF began to build Corner Gang's mountains. Individual griefers also took advantage of the situation, with multiple 2chers attacking Legion's main art and several people griefing 2ch's art outside the battle area with a trans flag.

2ch breaks the stalemate

The forces of 2ch continually worked to slow down the progress of the intervening side. As more of them joined the battlefield, they began to gain the upper hand. Most of the LOF was asleep, and Legion was focused on defending the ghost. This allowed 2ch to destroy the flag and small ghost Legion had created, causing a stalemate at the outlines of the main ghost. After several hours of inconclusive fighting, 2ch finally began to break through at the ghost's head. Approximately 3/4 of the ghost was destroyed at this point.

Counteroffensive

A counteroffensive organized by the LOF was mounted on the main ghost this point. After this, the intervening forces regained the advantage and quickly pushed 2ch back, rebuilding the main ghost, small ghost and flag. During this time, the mountains originally built at the start of the war started to be damaged as well.

Second stalemate

It was not long before 2ch was able to destroy the small ghost and mountains. After this, they began to center their efforts on the borders of the main ghost and asexual flag. A tense stalemate emerged at this point. On several occasions, 2ch broke through the stalemate and began pushing into the main ghost, but these incursions were narrowly repelled.

Final attack and end of the war

2ch was able to break through the stalemate irreversibly on their fourth try, driving in from the top of the main ghost and pushing downward. A second counteroffensive by the intervening forces was attempted, rebuilding about 1/3 of the main ghost, but was ultimately unsuccessful. At this point, all main belligerents of the war started working on their art again.

Aftermath

Shortly after the war, 2ch conducted a "Parting Gift" raid on Pride Faction on the assumption that they would be banned. Ultimately, 2ch was nuked a few days later for rule violations.
