During Canvas 93, the Pxls Staff held two polls in the #polls channel of the pxls.space discord server to decide the gimmick of Canvas 93a. The first poll from the 20th to 21st of September, 2025 decided the palette of the canvas. The poll concluded with a parchment/brown palette winning, receiving the most votes among 13 community-suggested concepts. The second poll from the 21st to 22nd of September decided if -snip- mode would be used for the canvas with 56.25% of voters opposing the gimmick.

Palette poll

On the 4th of September, 13 days into Canvas 93, Pxls administrator, Zephyr opened a thread in the #pxls channel of the pxls.space discord server called Gimmick Pallette [sic] Suggestions (later renamed to Gimmick Palette Suggestions). The thread allowed users to suggest palettes for the next gimmick canvas until the poll opened on the 20th of September.

The poll was posted in the #polls channel of the pxls.space discord server at 14:14 UTC and lasted 24 hours. Voters were able to select multiple palette options. It concluded with a parchment/brown themed palette, suggested by IronHebo winning with 43.12% of the voters voting for the palette.

Options

Out of the palettes suggested in the thread from 4–20 September, 13 were selected by Pxls staff as options in the poll.

  • Inverted colours, a palette consisting of the inversion of the colors in the current Pxls palette, suggested by Universe
  • Wispy's Pxls Rework, a palette of 33 colors created by retired placer, Wispy, suggested by Dia
  • r/place 2022 colours, the palette used on days 3–4 of the 2022 iteration of Reddit's r/place experiment and days 4–6 of the 2023 iteration, suggested by aphamau.
  • Pxls but only the dark colours, a palette of 13 colors with a dark value, suggested by Universe.
  • 12 most unused colours, suggested by Braix.
  • Dragonspit's palette, a palette of 7 grayscale colors ranging from black to white, and 7 high saturation colors with varying hues, suggested by Dragonspit999.
  • Parchment/brown themed, a palette of 8 shades of brown, varying in value, suggested by IronHebo.
  • Hybrid palette, a palette consisting of versions of the colors in the current Pxls palette from all previous palettes, suggested by Waffle.
  • PIC0-8, a palette consisting of the 32 default and hidden colors from the PICO-8 game engine, suggested by Universe.

  • Darth's palette, a palette of low saturation colors, suggested by Darth.
  • Virtual Boy, a palette of 4 colors ranging from black to red inspired by Nintendo's Virtual Boy, suggested by 11pixels.

-snip- mode poll

On the 21st of September at 14:16 UTC, 2 minutes after the closure of the palette poll, another poll was posted asking whether or not -snip- mode should be enabled on Canvas 93a in the #polls channel of the pxls.space discord server. The poll lasted for 24 hours and it concluded with 56.25% of voters opposing -snip- mode.

-snip- mode makes pixel placing and chat messages anonymous, it was previously used during Canvas 88a 5 months prior to the poll. Supporters of the gimmick argued that -snip- mode allowed for griefing without consequences due to large factions often keeping track of placers who grief them. Opponents of the gimmick argued that the gimmick claimed that it creates chat toxicity due to anonimity, and that -snip- mode is used too frequently, creating repetitiveness in gimmick canvases.
