History

Forward

The Ember Empire was created on the Stem Place Pxls Clone during Pxls' Canvas 40. It was intended to eventually move over to Pxls proper around Canvas 48, however, this did not end up happening.

After years of little-to-no activity, Selio slowly started placing again on c80. They remembered the plans to carry over Ember and began making progress while their placing speed also increased.

Canvas 81

During c81, The Ember Empire Discord server was restructured for the transition. In the later half of the canvas, the first pseudo operation took place in the new operations channel. It involved covering a fiddled artwork with a tree. Ember was known particularly for destroying all fiddle abuse on Stem Place.

Stem Place History

Forward

This section covers The Ember Empire's origins and history on the Stem Place Pxls clone. For more general information about what Stem Place was, follow the link above.

Instead of referring to each new canvas as a "canvas," Stem Place had a habit of referring to them as "seasons," hence the following heading names.

Season 7

Season 7 (mid 2020) was the canvas Stem Place returned on after a summer of the site being offline. Selio created a massive ego template that included their username, art, and some Pxls references. Following pressure from the rest of the community, the name portion was removed from the template and it was opened up to other contributions and references.

The Ember Empire server was first created during this time and planning for "The Rift" was localized there. However, it is not really considered an official Ember template. The idea of Ember Empire was to create a faction structurally based off of YOIB and (primarily) Legion from Pxls, that made art corresponding to a theme within the warm color palette.

Season 8

On this canvas, Ember truly started up. A large fox template was the basis, then more were added over time. Ember also picked up its first members, mostly people who worked with Selio on Pxls over the summer. Ember's imperialistic tendencies also materialized for the first time. Due to a longstanding rivalry, Ember covered Turt Town (a bunch of turtle pixel arts) and replaced it with Bag Town. A lightsaber pixel art was also adopted and enchanted into the template.

For the lattice, Ember created repeating cells of a fox head. It covered most of the canvas by the end and some cells were modified to be more unique.

Season 9

On season 9 Ember had a lava theme. The faction also started being more aggressive towards fiddle abuse or otherwise undesirable art on this canvas. The lava lamp covered an upscaled sprite and a poorly sized Pringles man.

There were also several lattice conflicts. Early on in the lattice phase, Ember rushed to cover a colony of cells on the left of the canvas. Shortly after, a larger colony was started on the right side of the canvas. Ember covered a small bit of Green Lattice by the main art. The truetrue emoji covered a couple Danganronpa pixel arts and a small rainbow lattice. Then Ember covered an axolotl lattice next to it.

The largest lattice conflict was over the rainbow lattice, which was originally located around the middle and around bag town. They claimed to want to take over the canvas. Ember covered nearly the whole thing and a Terraria lattice swallowed the north bit.

Next, Ember covered the other cells colony during the lava lamp raid and swallowed up Honey Lattice and more of the Terraria lattice in the middle of the canvas.

By the end of the canvas, Ember's lattice once again covered most of the background. Around this time, it became more apparent Ember was growing too large for Stem Place. This canvas had some of the most bloodshed the faction ever carried out, covering many lattices and arts just for the sake of it. So, the intention was to eventually transition the faction over to Pxls. However, this would not happen until 4 years later.

Season 10

This season Ember had a nature theme, though in practice it was more miscellaneous and only a couple arts adhered to the original theme. Early on, the Republic of Red was absorbed into Ember's template as a vassal. Selio had already been managing their template this canvas anyways, and the two factions shared many mutual members.

There were several claim conflicts at reset. The most notable was when Netux started placing an art of Flapjack (his pfp at the time) in the same spot as one of Ember's trees. Since fighting power was fractured early on, Selio conceded and cropped it out of the template, leaving the tree looking quite odd on the template.

Ember conducted a raid on Cazy_Man, who had temporarily quit. Much of the raid art is what is present in the top left of the snowflake canvas' template. Ember also improved and adopted some art by a user called TheNewKing (top right of template).

The most significant conflict this canvas was against a user called matbook_pro (who was the user that made cells on the previous canvas). He was notorious for making fiddle abuse and political imagery. Ember covered several of his arts. This caused more direct griefing from him, but nothing too substantial in the long run.

Ember had 65k of art this canvas, making it the largest template Ember had on Stem Place. For the lattice, Ember decided to go with the lattice Eiknarf990 had planned, in an effort to cover the whole canvas in a single lattice. The crimtane lattice collab indeed ended up covering the entire canvas. By the end, the only part of the canvas that wasn't part of Ember's sphere of influence was a small portion at the top, marking this the peak of the faction's time on Stem Place.

Season 11

On this canvas, Ember had a significantly smaller starting template, as Selio started planning to slow down. As the faction sign implies, there were also a couple more fiddle abuse raids this canvas.

At one point, both Ember and Eiknarf990 were planning to cover a poorly drawn bird to the left of Ember's pepe. Eiknarf started placing first, and Ember rushed to begin their raid. What ensued was the most brutal war in Stem Place history. Eiknarf's side was trying to build an art of Niko from Oneshot, and Ember was trying to build a golden skull. Niether side wanted to back down and Eiknarf received a significant amount of helpers, which were able to stay toe to toe with Ember's fighting force. For several days, there was fighting around the clock. Making the situation even more chaotic, a polish user called Bezimienny alternated between sides; and since he was several hours ahead of the rest of the playerbase, everyone woke up to find a random side with much more progress than the other.

After a few days, Ember was edging out on top. Selio offered a spot to relocate the Niko art and the war ended. It was a significant mental burden on Selio, which served to hasten their coming inactivity on Stem Place. It also happened to align with the 2ch-LOF wars on Pxls, which were another highly stressful group of conflicts.

Season 12

Initially as a joke meant to last a few hours, Selio started placing YOIB's roach taste from Canvas 31. Other Ember Admirals also started placing on it, and soon it became a serious claim. In order to justify its large size, a few adjustments were made. Grass and clouds were added to background and a gradient was added behind "#stopfiddleabuse." Also the "roach taste" text was replaced with "matbook taste," referencing the chronic fiddle abuser.

Following the completion of matbook taste, Ember's activity on Stem Place ceased, and they were not present on Season 13 (Stem Place's final canvas) at all.

Afterword

Because Selio stopped being active on both Stem Place and Pxls, the plan to migrate The Ember Empire to Pxls was not immediately realized. The Discord server laid dormant for nearly 3 years until Selio came back to the idea in 2024.
