Yellow Corner (C41)

Jump to navigation Jump to search

The Piss Republic, also unofficially but widely referred to as the Piss Corner, Pissland or Yellow Corner was a pseudofaction on Canvas 41. In this article, it will be referred to as the Yellow Corner, as ioanBG claimed it was a successor state of the Canvas 39 Yellow Corner, and because its legal name may cause controversy.

Background and creation

The bottom-right parts of any canvas, especially the ones with well-defined corners have always been an active zone of conflict if not covered by art, especially because of people wishing to revive the legacy of the Blue Corner of r/place, either by claiming they are continuing it, or by making their own spinoffs. On canvas 41, there were defined corners and soon the strip between the right side of the canvas and Changed Pxls's art became the battleground of several attempts at creating a plain corner, of which notable are the purple and blue pseudofactions, with the purple one managing to hold around 100-200px at the corner itself. However, the yellow group by the name of Yellow Box managed to hold about 1000 pixels before being overran by blue forces and toofu's fractals, with swffl creating a small trollface over the mess. There was an unsuccessful attempt to remove the fractals, which resulted in them being filled in completely, thus effectively destroying the Yellow Box.

History

In this environment, ioanBG decided to "clean up this mess" and restore the Yellow Corner of c39. Knowing toofu was an active placer, he decided not to attempt an invasion of the fractals, which by this point had covered most of the actual corner and had spread out, instead choosing to simply block their expansion. The remaining non-fractalised parts of the Yellow Box were cleaned of stray pixels, and a mauve text reading "Piss" was made, which remained as a symbol of the faction. The yellow was expanded northward, mostly respecting already placed pixels and backgrounds.

On the 21st of October a small force operating as the Green Corner attacked the fractals and the Yellow Corner and later started expanding from its northernmost areas. Their forces were quickly crushed despite only facing ioanBG, and they established themselves in the inner triangles of the fractals. Later, an attempt by another group to establish a purple corner was stopped, and during negotiations they were given several other triangles.

This state of balance, with different colours located in different triangles, with the corner pixel itself being made pastel yellow, and the fractals serving as a border between the other colours and the Yellow Corner was protected by ioanBG, as it allowed him to guard attempts at creating another corner faction without it spilling onto the YC itself. This policy of policing the fractals remained in place until the Second Fractal Aggression, after which the previous coloured triangles and the fractals were destroyed by other forces, and ioanBG felt he could protect YC without buffer states.

During the Green Corner raid toofu had connected his fractals at the expense of YC, which was reverted by ioanBG along with other damage done during the raid, expecting that toofu wouldn't waste his time fixing the damage. However, toofu went on to attempt to reconnect the fractals in several-hour long 1v1s, mostly ending up with his gains being reversed, to the extent that the Yellow Corner ended up expanding southward all the way to the bottom. However, the fighting continued, and one night, not long after ioanBG had gone inactive, toofu had renewed his expansion, and without any resistance managed to inflict heavy damage on the Yellow Corner. Fortunately for ioanBG, he stopped and effectively left canvas activities, allowing ioanBG to rebuild and expand the corner.

Expansion and post-FFA recovery

In between the many brief raids, the Yellow Corner had expanded northwards, largely between a line of grey pixels placed by Epic and Change Pxls's art, without it actually touching the canvas's edges as far north as Xscape's ego near PokePxls. There was also a wide range of destruction caused by toofu's fractals, which ioanBG sought to remove, with the exception of the triangles owned by the Green and Purple corners, who ioanBG attempted to take, but through the complaints of the Purple Corner's creator decided not to, as he did not want another enemy. Taking the fractals and filling in the remaining space would almost double the size of the Yellow Corner, however it would take several days before most had been finished. A fairly disorganised area was left for pink0crusader, the de jure leader of the Piss Republic, to cover, as a measure to prevent him from expanding further north, which would've created problems with PokePxls after an agreement between them and ioanBG to halt expansion and leave space for a lattice. This left the YC with around 7000 pixels, covering most of the area east of ChangedPxls and south of the incomplete Pulp Fiction art.

Pxlsfiddle records show an attempted return of the fractals, however it is not certain if that was a returned toofu. What is known is that during this brief attack, Youj made a polish and ukrainian flag at the bottom left of the YC territory, later denying it being intentional and claiming he "did not know it was ioanBG's area".

On the 30th of October toofu returned again, this time not expanding the remains of his old fractals, but instead overriding them with blue. ioanBG's attempts to gather support against him through chat backfired, with Chalkless hopping on to aid toofu. The raid was ill-timed for ioanBG, as it was started late in the evening, meaning he would have to place during the night. Not long after the start, Chalkless withdrew, meaning a several-hour long 1v1 commenced, lasting until around 7am for both sides, which ioanBG ultimately won, removing the last traces of fractals and different-coloured corners, along with Youj's flag.

Following that, no major expansion or conflict happened in the span of the next 10 days, as there had been a border agreement between ioanBG and PokePxls stopping the former's northward expansion. There were numerous smaller-scale griefs, but most involved less than one person and ended shortly.

On the 9th of November there was an attempt to make another blue corner. This was not viewed as a real threat, however soon DysKorD69 started making an italian flag. After attempted diplomacy by ioanBG, DysKorD was joined by several other chat members. In this unfortunate situation Bezimienny decided to make a bag on the Yellow Corner, saying it was only to "annoy shadow_z_az", the original creator of the C39 Yellow Corner, despite the latter having no involvement in this Yellow Corner. Adding to the confusion were the actions of pink0crusader, the nominal Piss President, who authorised DysKorD69's flag and ego. His orders were ignored by ioanBG, who managed to defeat the chat forces. During this most unfortunate of situations, Youj had again constructed a lattice in the bottom-left of the YC, yet again claiming he did not know it was ioanBG, and threatening to "take actions" against the YC if it attempted to do anything to it. He was ignored and the damage from the blue corner and chat forces was fixed, leaving the lattice and the bag. The next day the latter was retaken piece by piece, without any actions being taken against the Corner, and the bag was quickly overran several days later, without any resistance.

Post-Great Battle

Following these intense events was a period which again had no major expansions or conflicts. From the conflicts that did happen is notable the raid by several alt-accounts, during which ioanBG decided to ask the remaining server members of the original Yellow Corner for assistance, which he did, making this possibly the only battle of the Corner's history in which he was not fighting alone.

There were slight border changes in the north, with Xscape's art being moved north in exchange for the Yellow Corner taking some areas north of the original straight-line border. At the end, the Yellow Corner controlled around 7200 pixels. At the very end of the canvas, swffl attempted to cover the cornermost pixel in blue, which ultimately failed just seconds before the canvas reset.

Non-corner actions

As mentioned before, the proto-faction's name was not the Yellow Corner, as it is referred to here, but instead the Piss Republic, not limiting it to only the bottom-right corner. The most notable was the Colony of Pissland, which was a sign displaying the text "pissland" in 3x5 letters, established during the post-FFA recovery. It was not attacked or threatened during its entire existance until the end of the canvas.

There were also several attempts to occupy the top-left corner. The first one, started 16 days in against the blue forces there, however it was deemed that it would be too much of a distraction from what seemed to be the most important issue, which was the covering of the fractals in the post-FFA recovery. Nevertheless, a territory of around 100-200px was held for several hours. Two days later a triangle with 5px sides measured from the corner was taken and bordered from Sidestep's lattice, which had achieved success against the blue forces. The triangle was protected until the Second Fractal Aggression, amidst which it was taken by the Sidestep lattice. The last involvement in the northwest was 32 days in, against a missing texture pattern. It lasted shortly as it was covered by PirateOfDiamonds's Bag, which ioanBG tried and failed to remove.
