==History on Pxls==

===Discovering Pxls===
I first found out about Pxls very shortly after I first learned about r/place when I watched [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UMEeBvZWe4s this video] made by LittleshyFiM showcasing what the [https://www.whatisabrony.com/ brony] community built on r/place.

I was disappointed that I wasn't able to take part in the event, so I went looking for clones of r/place and stumbled upon pxls.space.

The first thing I did after creating a Pxls account was visit the Pxls subreddit and came across a post made by someone wanting to start a void in the bottom left on the canvas, which I helped by placing about 20 pixels before moving on. I then helped make a checkerboard pattern which later got destroyed. After that, I helped with various projects until the canvas reset.

Nearing the end of the canvas, I helped some bronies in the [https://discord.gg/raA6det Pxls Discord] build the word "HORSES" on the large art piece commemorating [[The New Pixel Axis]] at the bottom of the canvas.

Shortly before the [[canvas reset]], I looked through various messages in the #plans channel in the [https://discord.gg/raA6det Pxls Discord] to find a project I could help with once the canvas began. I narrowed it down to two choices: [[Doki Doki Pxls Club]] or [[Team PXLS]]. I ended up choosing Team PXLS and helped make their art during the canvas.

Midway through the canvas, I joined the ManePxls Discord server and helped them make their art and [[Rainbow Lattice|lattice]] until the end of the canvas.

From this point onward I would continue to help ManePxls and Team PXLS make their art on every canvas they were active on.

This canvas was the first time I built something of my own on Pxls, an [[ego]] in the shape of a waffle.

I built my first solo art piece, the :rooHappy: emote from the Twitch streamer [https://virtualyoutuber.fandom.com/wiki/AdmiralBahroo AdmiralBahroo.]

I began assisting [[squiddies]] in making updates to the [[global template]] which was previously only handled by him. I would continue to make updates to the global until canvas 50 where I finally got burnt out from making them. Global templates were replaced by [[Clueless]] shortly afterward anyways.

Sometime during the canvas, a user used [[pxlsFiddle]]'s lattice detector feature, looked at the :rooHappy: emote on the canvas, and found that the way the art was designed caused it to look a bit creepy on the lattice detector. Pairing that with another user's art just above :rooHappy: of a sign with the text "death", it made for a slightly horrifying amusing combo.

During canvas 45 I expressed my dislike of [[2ch]] in a staff channel on the Pxls Discord noting how extremely toxic they had acted, which was leaked by another staff member causing 2ch to attack ManePxls and completely remove their art.

A truce was made between ManePxls and 2ch allowing ManePxls to build their art on canvas 46, under the conditions that I had to apologize to them and make a 2ch themed pony art.

After having it in my "planned art" folder for nearly 5 years, I finally got around to making my third and final Roo art. The previous two being on [[TheWaffleLord#Canvas 14|canvas 14]] and [[TheWaffleLord#Canvas 21|canvas 21]]. 
As a fun nod to the [[osuplace]] faction, I added the text "osu" to the cookie as a reference to how they sometimes refer to the osu! logo as a "cookie".

Since I was already making an art piece that made me nostalgic for the older days of Pxls, I made an [[ego]] as well. The last time having done so on [[TheWaffleLord#Canvas 13|canvas 13]].

==Site Mechanics==
===Canvas reset===
A canvas reset is a mechanic of pxls.space in which the current canvas changes to a new one. These usually take around 30 minutes. A canvas resets once the canvas is deemed “full” by the [[Pxls staff]] (usually around a month). Resets get announced 3 days in advance in the [https://discord.gg/raA6det Pxls Discord server] and in the notifications tab on the site.

The Pxls chat was added on August 1st 2019<ref>https://github.com/pxlsspace/Pxls/pull/198</ref> and functions as a way for users to coordinate on the canvas without needing to use the [https://discord.gg/raA6det Pxls Discord server.]

It also has some additional functionality, such as:
* When you paste a template url it automatically converts it to a simplified version
* The amount of pixels you've placed (rounded) is displayed next to your name
* A faction that you are in can be displayed next to your name if you click the Set Displayed button next to a faction in your profile
* You can change your name color to any of the palette colors, as well as [https://thewafflelord37.github.io/Pixel-stuff/Donator%20Gradients.html some custom gradients] if you've [https://opencollective.com/pxls made a donation to Pxls].

===Cooldown event===
The Pxls developers may sometimes temporarily lower the cooldown between getting pixels as a fun small event, or to make up for lost time if the site went down unexpectedly.

===-snip- mode===
-snip- mode is a canvas mode that effects user's usernames, changing them all temporarily to '-snip-' instead of their usual username. This effectively makes each user anonymous. -snip- mode does not affect the color, faction or tag of the user's username. -snip- mode has only been used on a few gimmick canvases, those being canvases [[Canvas 13b|13b]], [[Canvas 21a|21a]], [[Canvas 34a|34a]], [[Canvas 43a|43a]], [[Canvas 60a|60a]], [[Canvas 78a|78a]], [[Canvas 88a|88a]], [[Canvas 98a|98a]], and accidentally on [[Canvas 67a|67a]] due to lookups being broken.

The reason -snip- mode was created was to hide users' IP's since they would've been shown instead of usernames due to the pxls.space server being migrated to a different computer. Since then it has been just been used as a gimmick on some gimmick canvases.

A template is an image displayed on top of the canvas to make it easier for a user to create an art piece.

===Template styles===
There are several different "styles" that templates can be displayed with. Pictured below are a few of the most commonly used. For a list of all the template styles, see [[List of styles]].

In common conversation, most users refer to the second and third styles as "dotted" and "symbols" respectively.

The terms on the top for each are used in the template settings on the website, while the terms on the bottom are used by [[Clueless]] when using its /template command.

===Undo===
After placing a pixel, a large undo button will appear at the bottom of the screen allowing you to undo your pixel in case you misplaced it, or are [[Community dictionary#"Virgin"_related_terms|devirgining]]. This button will disappear after around five seconds. Alternatively, the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Z will also undo a pixel whenever the undo button is visible.

Every user has three undos available a minute. When a pixel is undone, a sixty second timer begins that will restock your undos once finished. This means that you are able to undo a pixel, then (for example) do two more undos after waiting fifty seconds, and your undos will restock ten seconds after that instead of forcing you to wait a full minute every time an undo is performed.

Excessive virgin abuse (around 10% or more) is seen by many as an unfair advantage, and failing to devirgin excessively virgin abused art/lattice may result in other users devirgining it or even attacking.

Users have the ability to view the '''"virginmap"''' by enabling it in the settings (or pressing the X key) which shows which pixels are still virgin pixels. Virgin pixels appear light green, while non-virgin pixels appear black.

There is a setting Pxls developers can enable that causes pixels placed on non-virgin pixels to make the pixel refresh cooldown longer (1.6x by default). This setting has not been enabled since [[Canvas 18]].

===Annie===
Annie is a character/inside joke created by [[Pxls staff]]. She was mentioned in the canvas announcements for [[Canvas 34|C34]], [[Canvas 34a|C34a]], [[Canvas 36|C36]], and [[Canvas 98a|C98a]].

The story goes that canvas 34 (a teddy bear) was given to the community by Annie to be colored. Canvas 34 was stopped midway through for the gimmick canvas 34a, which had the design of a few viruses. The "lore" reason for the surprise gimmick canvas was that Annie was taking a COVID-19 test and the teddy bear was quarantined. Annie was mentioned in the announcement for the ending of canvas 36 (a slice of cheese) stating "yall took Annie's cheese smh, what is she going to take to the picnic on the beach now."

The Annie story was brought back for canvas 98a, which was a smaller version of canvas 36 with only the holes in the cheese placeable. The "lore" reason was Annie doesn't actually like Swiss cheese and the community had to fill the holes on the second slice to make up for stealing the first.

These were some of the only times "lore" was added to the canvases, the other notable time being the "accidents" on [[canvas 67a]].

===Bag===
A bag is a small sprite brought to Pxls by [[Bezimienny]] and shadow_z_az. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9SKEIc9VGOI It comes from the game "Knights of Pen And Paper 2"] and is intended to be a guinea pig. However, this fact isn't immediately obvious, so users on Pxls began theorizing what it could be (including but not limited to: a kangaroo, a rat, a bag, a fetus, a potato.) People also used the bag emotes to express various different emotions. Quickly, people started adding stuff on to "bags" or creating a new bag entirely. The naming convention for bags is "thiscanmeananythingbut-x."

Over the course of time two separate bag factions have been created: [[Bag Faction]] created by Bezimienny and shadow_z_az, and [[Bag Nation]] created by Mr. Sneke and House-5.

[[Canvas 43a]] depicts a large bag as the placeable area of the canvas.

This phrase is usually said in Pxls chat by a few users at the top of every hour. It started as a joke by Pxls user [[fisk]] during New Year's at the end of 2023 with them continuing to say "Happy new year" long after the new year had started. Some other Pxls users noticed and joined in wishing a happy new year, with others noticing them and joining as well leading to the phrase being as widely used as it is today.

The phrase eventually grew so popular, [[Happy New Year|an entire faction was made that builds new year themed art on the canvas]].

===Discovering Pxls===
I first found out about Pxls very shortly after I first learned about r/place when I watched [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UMEeBvZWe4s this video] made by LittleshyFiM showcasing what the [https://www.whatisabrony.com/ brony] community built on r/place.

I was disappointed that I wasn't able to take part in the event, so I went looking for clones of r/place and stumbled upon pxls.space.

The first thing I did after creating a Pxls account was visit the Pxls subreddit and came across a post made by someone wanting to start a void in the bottom left on the canvas, which I helped by placing about 20 pixels before moving on. I then helped make a checkerboard pattern which later got destroyed. After that, I helped with various projects until the canvas reset.

Nearing the end of the canvas, I helped some bronies in the [https://discord.gg/raA6det Pxls Discord] build the word "HORSES" on the large art piece commemorating [[The New Pixel Axis]] at the bottom of the canvas.

Shortly before the [[canvas reset]], I looked through various messages in the #plans channel in the [https://discord.gg/raA6det Pxls Discord] to find a project I could help with once the canvas began. I narrowed it down to two choices: [[Doki Doki Pxls Club]] or [[Team PXLS]]. I ended up choosing Team PXLS and helped make their art during the canvas.

Midway through the canvas, I joined the ManePxls Discord server and helped them make their art and [[Rainbow Lattice|lattice]] until the end of the canvas.

From this point onward I would continue to help ManePxls and Team PXLS make their art on every canvas they were active on.

This canvas was the first time I built something of my own on Pxls, an [[ego]] in the shape of a waffle.

I built my first solo art piece, the :rooHappy: emote from the Twitch streamer [https://virtualyoutuber.fandom.com/wiki/AdmiralBahroo AdmiralBahroo.]

I began assisting [[squiddies]] in making updates to the [[global template]] which was previously only handled by him. I would continue to make updates to the global until canvas 50 where I finally got burnt out from making them. Global templates were replaced by [[Clueless]] shortly afterward anyways.

Sometime during the canvas, a user used [[pxlsFiddle]]'s lattice detector feature, looked at the :rooHappy: emote on the canvas, and found that the way the art was designed caused it to look a bit creepy on the lattice detector. Pairing that with another user's art just above :rooHappy: of a sign with the text "death", it made for a slightly horrifying amusing combo.

It was founded on [[Canvas 28]] as a countermeasure against [[Void (general)|voids]], due to an increased number of voiders from [[TikTok Invasion|TikTok]]. Later, it became a more general-purpose art faction marked by some controversy, including the [[Banned Lives Matter]] art, as well as criticism over it's internal ranking system.

To rank up in YOIB there was a system of operations that allow to you gain OP points, these points are gained through activity in the discord, pol reactions, nitro boosting the server, and most importantly placing in operations. An operation was getting a group focused on placing on a specified art by overseers usually with multiple phases. 1 OP point is awarded with every 10 pixels placed in an operation. Ranking up gets harder and harder as you progress through the ranks due to the increased op requirement each time you rank up increasing. OP points are managed through the [[Yobbi Dolli]] Discord bot.

YOIB was at one point the third-largest faction on pxls in terms of members, after the former [[Pink Gang]] and [[Legion]], and the largest faction in terms of pixels placed (with 12m+ pixels).

Yobbi Dolli, previously Yobbi Bobbi, is a Discord bot in [[YOIB]] that serves as a general purpose bot for pxls.space. Notably, it is used to track "OP points" for YOIB, make speed graphs for both users and factions, create templates, and much more.

It is arguably the oldest Discord bot ever developed for Pxls, as it has been running since 14 February 2020, during [[Canvas 32]].

The Weed Crown Assembly is an event which occured on C73 on 9/28/2023, ~3:30pm - 5pm. EST

It started with pxls user Minecrafter124 sending a template in chat which contained their object oc, crowny. This sparked the attention of pxls user [[pebble_]]. He placed a single magenta pixel on the center gem of crowny. This caused Minecrafter124 to get upset in chat. Pebble turned the entire gem magenta, then started making the pupils red. This sparked the chats attention, as people started to help.

The sclera of the eye turned red with pxls, which gave chat an idea; make it high and smoking a joint. This developed into making crowny into a marijuana crown, also known as "Weedy." Minecrafter124 began to help with this idea, not fighting it.

Pebble made the template, to which user [[Toebeans]] suggested to add orange and purple spots, to further represnt marijuana.

The '''Second''' '''Hugh Mungus Raid''' was a conflict against [[Avery]] throughout [[Canvas 73]]. Despite being called the Second ''Hugh Mungus'' Raid, Hugh Mungus himself was nowhere to be seen on the template. The name is a callback to the [[Hugh Mungus Raid|an earlier raid against Avery]] on [[Canvas 68]].

The raid was initially attempted extremely early into the canvas by [[left]], who with the help of some friends built a frog in the area that the art was being outlined. This attack failed, and Avery's template continued to exist for around roughly 2 weeks. On October 6th, 2023 a raid combining several small arts into a collab was successfully pulled off. The template was drastically increased for the second attack in order to cover almost the entirety of Avery's art. As of writing there have been no counterattacks by Avery or her allies.

A raid on the [[Catboy Castle|Catboy Cafe]] was briefly considered by left and jen due to Firenze's frequent defense's of Avery's actions but was scrapped when they were informed it was protected by the [[Chromatic Empire]]. However, CBC was still raided by independent griefers a few days later for other reasons and the art was quickly abandoned.

There are several "unspoken rules" in the Pxls community that are either general good practices many Pxls users do, or actions that are usually looked down upon by some Pxls users.

This page is mostly aimed towards new Pxls users, but veteran users, and both solo users and faction leaders may find useful info here.

==Good practices==
===Add your template to Clueless===
Most users/factions add their templates to [[Clueless]]' progress tracker with <code>/progress add</code>, both to get useful stats on their template, and so other users/factions can automatically crop their lattice template to remove any overlaps with your art by using the <code>/crop-to-templates</code> command.

Another good reason to add your template to Clueless is that at the start of a canvas, many users check Clueless' "@combo" template (which is a combined image of all the templates people have added) so they know which areas have been claimed, even if art pieces haven't been fully outlined yet.

===Art outlining===
When starting the construction of an artwork on the canvas, it's best to focus on the outline of your art so others that want to make art near you know what the bounds of your art are to prevent overlaps without needing to know what your template is.

It's much better to make a "dotted outline" first before filling in the outline fully since it's much faster to complete.

Many factions add solid color outlines to their art so when dotted outlines are made it is clearer for others to see due to it being all one color, and it is easier to place since you don't have to constantly switch between colors.

===Pre-style your template===
In the site settings you are able to change what [[Community_dictionary#Template_styles|style]] you want templates to display as, but most users keep their style on "source" which simply displays the template image without doing anything extra to it.

The reason for this is that it is much less intensive on your browser to show the base image instead of converting it directly on the site. Due to this, most Pxls users/factions pre-style their templates using Clueless' <code>/template</code> command.

==What to avoid==
===Abandoning your art===
If you partially build your art but don't make any progress on it for a while (usually a few days to a few weeks depending when/where it was made), other users/factions will likely cover it with other art or lattice.

===AI generated art===
Controversial, probably best to avoid.

===Caveats with lattice/background expanding===
When adding a [[lattice]] or [[background]] around your art, it's best to expand naturally outwards from the art instead of outlining the lattice. This is because the borders of your lattice may grow or shrink depending on the placing speed of other users/factions making lattices. It is also seen by some as a bit rude.

Generally lattice claiming is seen as a "first come, first served" sort of deal, with the exception being some users may want their art to be fully surrounded by their lattice which most factions will respect.

===Low effort art===
Things like flat country flags, auto-converted ([[fiddled]]) art, and video game sprites are generally looked down upon and sometimes [[Community_dictionary#Griefing|griefed]].

Making art that has been built on a previous canvas is also generally looked down upon in most cases. The exceptions to this are small [[Community_dictionary#Ego|egos]] which some users build on every canvas without issue, and [[Community_dictionary#Critters|critters]].

===Overclaiming===
Make sure you have the placing speed to complete your art in a reasonable amount of time (usually a couple weeks), or other users/factions may cover it with other art or lattice.

===Touching outlines===
Some users/factions don't like when other art directly contacts their art, and may even grief it due to this. Try to keep a gap of at least 1 pixel (the bigger the gap is the better) between your art and others.

There are several "unspoken rules" in the Pxls community that are either general good practices many Pxls users do, or actions that are usually looked down upon by some Pxls users.

This page is mostly aimed towards new Pxls users, but veteran users, and both solo users and faction leaders may find useful info here.

Most users/factions add their templates to [[Clueless]]' progress tracker with <code>/progress add</code>, both to get useful stats on their template, and so other users/factions can automatically crop their lattice template to remove any overlaps with your art by using the <code>/crop-to-templates</code> command.

Another good reason to add your template to Clueless is that at the start of a canvas, many users check Clueless' "@combo" template (which is a combined image of all the templates people have added) so they know which areas have been claimed, even if art pieces haven't been fully outlined yet.

When starting the construction of an artwork on the canvas, it's best to focus on the outline of your art so others that want to make art near you know what the bounds of your art are to prevent overlaps without needing to know what your template is.

It's much better to make a "dotted outline" first before filling in the outline fully since it's much faster to complete.

Many factions add solid color outlines to their art so when dotted outlines are made it is clearer for others to see due to it being all one color, and it is easier to place since you don't have to constantly switch between colors.

Generally lattice claiming is seen as a "first come, first served" sort of deal, with the exception being some users may want their art to be fully surrounded by their lattice which most factions will respect.

==Site Mechanics==
===Canvas reset===
A canvas reset is a mechanic of pxls.space in which the current canvas changes to a new one. These usually take around an hour. A canvas resets once the canvas is deemed “full” by the [[Pxls staff]] (usually around a month). Resets get announced 3 days in advance in the [https://discord.gg/raA6det Pxls Discord server] and in the notifications tab on the site.

===Chat===
The Pxls chat was added on August 1st 2019<ref>https://github.com/pxlsspace/Pxls/pull/198</ref> and functions as a way for users to coordinate on the canvas without needing to use the [https://discord.gg/raA6det Pxls Discord server.]

It also has some additional functionality, such as:
* When you paste a template url it automatically converts it to a simplified version
* The amount of pixels you've placed (rounded) is displayed next to your name
* A faction that you are in can be displayed next to your name if you click the Set Displayed button next to a faction in your profile
* You can change your name color to any of the palette colors, as well as [https://thewafflelord37.github.io/Pxls-stuff/Donator%20Gradients.html some custom gradients] if you've made a donation to Pxls.

===Cooldown event===
The Pxls developers may sometimes temporarily lower the cooldown between getting pixels as a fun small event, or to make up for lost time if the site went down unexpectedly.

===-snip- mode===
-snip- mode is a canvas mode that effects user's usernames, changing them all temporarily to '-snip-' instead of their usual username. This effectively makes each user anonymous. -snip- mode does not affect the color, faction or tag of the user's username. -snip- mode has only been used on a few gimmick canvases, those being canvases [[Canvas 13b|13b]], [[Canvas 21a|21a]], [[Canvas 34a|34a]], [[Canvas 43a|43a]], [[Canvas 60a|60a]], [[Canvas 78a|78a]], [[Canvas 88a|88a]], and accidentally on [[Canvas 67a|67a]] due to lookups being broken.

The reason -snip- mode was created was to hide users' IP's since they would've been shown instead of usernames due to the pxls.space server being migrated to a different computer. Since then it has been just been used as an interesting gimmick on some gimmick canvases.

A template is an image displayed on top of the canvas to make it easier for a user to create an art piece.

There are several different "styles" that templates can be displayed with. Pictured below are a few of the most commonly used. For a list of all the template styles, see [[List of styles]].

In common conversation, most users refer to the second and third styles as "dotted" and "symbols" respectively.

The terms on the top for each are used in the template settings on the website, while the terms on the bottom are used by [[Clueless]] when using its /template command.

After placing a pixel, a large undo button will appear at the bottom of the screen allowing you to undo your pixel in case you misplaced it, or are [[Community dictionary#"Virgin"_related_terms|devirgining]]. This button will disappear after around five seconds. Alternatively, the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Z will also undo a pixel whenever the undo button is visible.

Every user has three undos available a minute. When a pixel is undone, a sixty second timer begins that will restock your undos once finished. This means that you are able to undo a pixel, then (for example) do two more undos after waiting fifty seconds, and your undos will restock ten seconds after that instead of forcing you to wait a full minute every time an undo is performed.

Annie is a character/inside joke created by [[Pxls staff]]. She was mentioned in the canvas announcements for [[Canvas 34|C34]], [[Canvas 34a|C34a]], and [[Canvas 36|C36]].

The story goes that canvas 34 (a teddy bear) was given to the community by Annie to be colored. Canvas 34 was stopped midway through for the gimmick canvas 34a, which had the design of a few viruses. The "lore" reason for the surprise gimmick canvas was that Annie was taking a COVID-19 test and the teddy bear was quarantined. Annie was mentioned one last time in the announcement for the ending of canvas 36 (a slice of cheese) stating "yall took Annie's cheese smh, what is she going to take to the picnic on the beach now."

This was one of the only times "lore" was added to the canvases, the other time being on [[canvas 67a]].

===Bag===
A bag is a small sprite brought to Pxls by [[Bezimienny]] and shadow_z_az. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9SKEIc9VGOI It comes from the game "Knights of Pen And Paper 2"] and is intended to be a guinea pig. However, this fact isn't immediately obvious, so users on Pxls began theorizing what it could be (including but not limited to: a kangaroo, a rat, a bag, a fetus, a potato.) People also used the bag emotes to express various different emotions. Quickly, people started adding stuff on to "bags" or creating a new bag entirely. The naming convention for bags is "thiscanmeananythingbut-x."

Over the course of time two separate bag factions have been created: [[Bag Faction]] created by Bezimienny and shadow_z_az, and [[Bag Nation]] created by Mr. Sneke and House-5.

[[Canvas 43a]] depicts a large bag as the placeable area of the canvas.

Some other Pxls users noticed and joined in wishing a happy new year, with others noticing them and joining as well leading to the phrase being as widely used as it is today.

The phrase eventually grew so popular, [[Happy New Year|an entire faction was made that builds new year themed art on the canvas]].

There are several "unspoken rules" in the Pxls community that are either general good practices many Pxls users do, or actions that are usually looked down upon by some Pxls users. This page aims to explain them.

This page is mostly aimed towards new Pxls users, but veteran users, and both solo users and faction leaders may find useful info here.

==Good practices==
===Add your template to Clueless===
Most users/factions add their templates to [[Clueless]]' progress tracker with <code>/progress add</code>, both to get useful stats on their template, and so other users/factions can automatically crop their lattice template to remove any overlaps with your art by using the <code>/crop-to-templates</code> command.

Another good reason to add your template to Clueless is that at the start of a canvas, many users check Clueless' "@combo" template (which is a combined image of all the templates people have added) so they know which areas have been claimed, even if art pieces haven't been fully outlined yet.

===Art outlining===
When starting the construction of an artwork on the canvas, it's best to focus on the outline of your art so others that want to make art near you know what the bounds of your art are to prevent overlaps without needing to know what your template is.

It's much better to make a "dotted outline" first before filling in the outline fully since it's much faster to complete.

Many factions add solid color outlines to their art so when dotted outlines are made it is clearer for others to see due to it being all one color, and it is easier to place since you don't have to constantly switch between colors.

===Pre-style your template===
In the site settings you are able to change what [[Community_dictionary#Template_styles|style]] you want templates to display as, but most users keep their style on "source" which simply displays the template image without doing anything extra to it.

The reason for this is that it is much less intensive on your browser to show the base image instead of converting it directly on the site. Due to this, most Pxls users/factions pre-style their templates using Clueless' <code>/template</code> command.

==What to avoid==
===Abandoning your art===
If you partially build your art but don't make any progress on it for a while (usually a few days to a few weeks depending when/where it was made), other users/factions will likely cover it with other art or lattice.

===Caveats with lattice/background expanding===
When adding a [[lattice]] or [[background]] around your art, it's best to expand naturally outwards from the art instead of outlining the lattice. This is because the borders of your lattice may grow or shrink depending on the placing speed of other users/factions making lattices. It is also seen by some as a bit rude.

Generally lattice claiming is seen as a "first come, first served" sort of deal, with the exception being some users may want their art to be fully surrounded by their lattice which most factions will respect.

===Low effort art===
Things like flat country flags, auto-converted ([[fiddled]]) art, and video game sprites are generally looked down upon and sometimes [[Community_dictionary#Griefing|griefed]].

Making art that has been built on a previous canvas is also generally looked down upon, no matter its quality. The exceptions to this are small [[Community_dictionary#Ego|egos]] which some users build on every canvas without issue, and [[Community_dictionary#Critters|critters]].

===Overclaiming===
Make sure you have the placing speed to complete your art in a reasonable amount of time (usually a couple weeks), or other users/factions may cover it with other art or lattice.
