The war began with users and factions who had grievances with [[Neuro-sama's Swarm]] forming a coalition called the [[Neuro Expulsion Corps]] with the purpose of organizing a large-scale raid against the Swarm. The initial raid was led and organized by [[Zephyr]], with help from [[Liam]], [[Lana]], [[Peyrov]], [[Pebble]], and [[Onion77]].

The initial [[Swarm War (Canvas 94)#Battle of the Boat|Battle of the Boat]] on October 11 resulted in a victory for [[Neuro-sama's Swarm]]. The retaliatory [[Swarm War (Canvas 94)#Battle of the Hot Dog|Battle of the Hot Dog]] the following day resulted in a victory for the NEC.

The raiders' template was the boat Hammer-Yang from the [[wikipedia:Metal_Slug|''Metal Slug'']] series, while the defenders template was Evil parodying the cover of [https://vocaloid.fandom.com/wiki/KING KING]. The NEC launched their attack at 1 PM EST on October 11, 2025. Due to the large size of both forces, the online user count rose quite noticeably. The raid peaked at 24% completion, and after 6.5 hours of fighting, was repulsed.

The raid template was a grayscale and ironically fiddle abused version of Charlie Zone's artwork, with the words "I love Neuro-sama" superimposed over it. The raid peaked at ~5.9% completion, and after 3 hours of fighting, was repulsed. The hot dog was finished shortly after.

Following the Battle of the Boat, [[Neuro-sama's Swarm]] members made several attempts to grief the logo, which were successfully defended by the [[Neuro Expulsion Corps|NEC]]. On 2025-10-19, 16:00 EST, Swarm prepared a template replacing the "HP" logo and text with "osu!" logo and text. This template reached 100% completion around 2 hours thereafter, and was defended for an estimated additional 16 hours, before Swarm stopped the defense. Swarm and [[Neuro Expulsion Corps|NEC]] members then repaired the logo.

The '''Battle of Rose Khanate''' was a series of two attempts by the [[Precious Family Pixelers]] (PFam) to cover the art of the [[Rose Khanate]] on October 20 and 21. The griefs were repulsed. Though ostensibly unrelated to the Swarm War, the battle was nonetheless an extension of the wider conflict. PFam waited until the Swarm's main artwork was completed to raid the Rose Khanate, and saw assistance from multiple members of the Swarm; defense of the artwork was likewise spearheaded by the NEC.

Starting on 2025-10-25 14:15 EST, the raid template was an art depicting the Deltarune characters Tenna and Spamton, placed on top of Swarm's art of Study-sama and a Neuro Shimeji. ==Site Mechanics==
===Canvas reset===
A canvas reset is a mechanic of pxls.space in which the current canvas changes to a new one. These usually take around an hour. A canvas resets once the canvas is deemed “full” by the [[Pxls staff]] (usually around a month). Resets get announced 3 days in advance in the [https://discord.gg/raA6det Pxls Discord server] and in the notifications tab on the site.

===Cooldown event===
The Pxls developers may sometimes temporarily lower the cooldown between getting pixels as a fun small event, or to make up for lost time if the site went down unexpectedly.

===-snip- mode===
-snip- mode is a canvas mode that effects user's usernames, changing them all temporarily to '-snip-' instead of their usual username. This effectively makes each user anonymous. -snip- mode does not affect the color, faction or tag of the user's username. -snip- mode has only been used on a few gimmick canvases, those being canvases [[Canvas 13b|13b]], [[Canvas 21a|21a]], [[Canvas 34a|34a]], [[Canvas 43a|43a]], [[Canvas 60a|60a]], [[Canvas 78a|78a]], [[Canvas 88a|88a]], and accidentally on [[Canvas 67a|67a]] due to lookups being broken.

The reason -snip- mode was created was to hide users' IP's since they would've been shown instead of usernames due to the pxls.space server being migrated to a different computer. Since then it has been just been used as an interesting gimmick on some gimmick canvases.

A template is an image displayed on top of the canvas to make it easier for a user to create an art piece.

===Template styles===
There are several different "styles" that templates can be displayed with. Pictured below are a few of the most commonly used.

In common conversation, most users refer to the second and third styles as "dotted" and "symbols" respectively.

The terms on the top for each are used in the template settings on the website, while the terms on the bottom are used by [[Clueless]] when using its /template command.

===Undo===
After placing a pixel, a large undo button will appear at the bottom of the screen allowing you to undo your pixel in case you misplaced it, or are [[Community dictionary#"Virgin"_related_terms|devirgining]]. This button will disappear after around five seconds. Alternatively, the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Z will also undo a pixel whenever the undo button is visible.

Every user has three undos available a minute. When a pixel is undone, a sixty second timer begins that will restock your undos once finished. This means that you are able to undo a pixel, then (for example) do two more undos after waiting fifty seconds, and your undos will restock ten seconds after that instead of forcing you to wait a full minute every time an undo is performed.

===Annie===
Annie is a character/inside joke created by [[Pxls staff]]. She was mentioned in the canvas announcements for [[Canvas 34|C34]], [[Canvas 34a|C34a]], and [[Canvas 36|C36]].

The story goes that canvas 34 (a teddy bear) was given to the community by Annie to be colored. Canvas 34 was stopped midway through for the gimmick canvas 34a, which had the design of a few viruses. The "lore" reason for the surprise gimmick canvas was that Annie was taking a COVID-19 test and the teddy bear was quarantined. Annie was mentioned one last time in the announcement for the ending of canvas 36 (a slice of cheese) stating "yall took Annie's cheese smh, what is she going to take to the picnic on the beach now."

This was one of the only times "lore" was added to the canvases, the other time being on [[canvas 67a]].

===Happy new year===
This phrase is usually said in Pxls chat by a few users at the top of every hour. It started as a joke by Pxls user [[fisk]] during New Year's at the end of 2023 with them continuing to say "Happy new year" long after the new year had started. Some other Pxls users noticed and joined in wishing a happy new year, with others noticing them and joining as well leading to the phrase being as widely used as it is today.

The phrase eventually grew so popular, [[Happy New Year|an entire faction was made that builds new year themed art on the canvas]].

===:ThisCanMeanAnything:===
ThisCanMeanAnything, otherwise known as a "Bag," is a small sprite brought to Pxls by [[Bezimienny]] and shadow_z_az. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9SKEIc9VGOI It comes from the game "Knights of Pen And Paper 2"] and is intended to be a guinea pig. However, this fact isn't immediately obvious, so users on Pxls began theorizing what it could be (including but not limited to: a kangaroo, a rat, a bag, a fetus, a potato.) People also used the bag emotes to express various different emotions. Quickly, people started adding stuff on to "bags" or creating a new bag entirely. The naming convention for bags is "thiscanmeananythingbut-x."

Over the course of time two separate bag factions have been created: [[Bag Faction]] created by Bezimienny and shadow_z_az, and [[Bag Nation]] created by Mr. Sneke and House-5.

[[Canvas 43a]] depicts a large bag as the placeable area of the canvas.

The initial raid was led and organized by [[Zephyr]], with help from [[Liam]], [[Lana]], [[Peyrov]], [[Pebble]], and [[Caden88]].

The initial [[Swarm War (Canvas 94)#Battle of the Boat|Battle of the Boat]] on October 11 resulted in a victory for [[Neuro-sama's Swarm]]. The retaliatory [[Swarm War (Canvas 94)#Battle of the Hot Dog|Battle of the Hot Dog]] the following day resulted in a victory for the NEC.

The '''HP Logo War''' was a series of clashes, followed by a final confrontation, over Lukidot's solo art, which depicted a logo of the American company HP. Following the Battle of the Boat, [[Neuro-sama's Swarm]] members made several attempts to grief the logo, which were successfully defended by the [[Neuro Expulsion Corps|NEC]]. On 2025-10-19, 16:00 EST, Swarm prepared a template replacing the "HP" logo and text with "osu!" logo and text. This template reached 100% completion around 2 hours thereafter, and was defended for an estimated additional 16 hours, before Swarm stopped the defense. Swarm and [[Neuro Expulsion Corps|NEC]] members then repaired the logo.

The '''Battle of Rose Khanate''' was a series of two attempts by the [[Precious Family Pixelers]] (PFam) to cover the art of the [[Rose Khanate]] on October 20 and 21. The griefs were repulsed. Though ostensibly unrelated to the Swarm War, the battle was nonetheless an extension of the wider conflict. PFam waited until the Swarm's main artwork was completed to raid the Rose Khanate, and saw assistance from multiple members of the Swarm; defense of the artwork was likewise spearheaded by the NEC.

The '''Legion invasion of c88a''' was an invasion on [[c88a]] by [[Legion]], during which Legion attempted forced romanization of a significant area of the canvas. The main forces were Legion, [[Neuro-sama's Swarm]] and various factions collaborating under the name purp13. Additionally, many volunteers were involved, however due to the canvas having [[-snip- mode]], the number of individual participants is impossible to know for certain.

== Timeline ==
About 11 hours into the canvas, Legion started building in the bottom middle of the cloud. Their speed was significant as they begun to call in other branches of [[Legion on Pxls|the greater Legion]] to test their power. Though notably not said until much later in the canvas, their goal was similar to [[c43a]]--covering or romanizing as much land as possible. Once Centurii-Chan was finished, Legion moved to construct their lattice. It covered a few small arts as it expanded.

Legion's first major target was [[Pixelstuck]], which was making a highly [[fiddled]] April Fools art. Due to the purposefully poor quality of the art, Legion's consoles were not aware it was their close allies Pixelstuck they were attacking.

Afterwards, Legion began planning what to do next. Originally they were going to invade the right side of the canvas next where the [[purp13]] collab was located; however, purp13 approached Legion about an alliance and in response Legion offered the opportunity to become allies in war and the condition purp13 would not be touched.

The following day, Swarm pushed through Legion's front line, attacking first. Legion sprung into action, pushing deeper into Swarm's lattice with purp13 factions also joining in. Legion crawled forward for a few hours, then the front line began to stall. Swarm started recruiting more members from offsite and the online user count peaked at 182, the highest Pxls had seen in many months.

Swarm started to make steady progress into Legion's territory, especially as night dawned in Moscow. By the next day, Swarm had taken a significant portion of Legion's lattice and modified the text around Centurii-Chan (which was negotiated before hand).

== Aftermath ==
Legion declared defeat and entered into talks with Swarm to create a collab art. Swarm settled on a border with Legion and built an art of Neuro-sama based on Legion's main art. A good deal of Legion's lattice territory was returned as well. Pixelstuck's large project was overtaken by Legion, though a small art piece they built in one of the raindrops survived.
